I’m beginning deeper research into the subject of “Elements”. The question is do I want earthly elements? Or should I create otherworldly elements? There’s a lot of creative opportunity that I can take here.
I’ll begin with listing some different elements and website sources:
Fire– forest fires, heat, destruction, sudden, smoke, deserts, candles, torches, lamps, red, orange, yellow, purple
Water– oceans, rivers, lakes, rain, snow, blizzards, floods, tsunamis, sinking, drowning, blue, green, aqua
Earth– plants, overgrowth, apocalypse, trees, leaves, bark, moss, dirt, roots, fungi, clovers, stone, green, brown, grey
Air– movement, wind, stillness, breath, transparent, calm, tornadoes, hurricanes, cold, warm, light blue, white
While researching character design artists, I came across the book “The Art of Animal Character Design” by David Colman.
David Colman is a well-known character artist that has worked with Disney and Cartoon Network. His work is extremely expressive and unique, and in his book he displays his own sketches, progress work, and finished character pieces. He explains the creative process behind creating your own character and how practice makes perfect especially when you’re a 2D artist like himself. His work is astounding and I find that his characters and multitude of styles are extremely impressive and inspiring.
You can find much much MUCH more of his work on his official DeviantArt page.
